What Is the XRPL Network Fee?
The XRPL network fee is the small amount of XRP destroyed every time a transaction is processed on the XRP Ledger. Unlike traditional payment networks, this fee is not collected by any party - it is permanently burned, reducing the total XRP supply with each transaction.
The minimum XRPL network fee for a standard transaction is 0.00001 XRP, also known as 10 drops. At current XRP prices, this is a fraction of a cent, making XRPL one of the most cost-efficient blockchain networks in the world.
Why Does the XRPL Charge a Network Fee?
The fee exists for two primary reasons: to prevent spam and denial-of-service attacks, and to allocate computational resources fairly. Without a fee, malicious actors could flood the network with meaningless transactions at zero cost. The small burn discourages abuse while keeping costs negligible for legitimate users.
How the Fee Is Calculated
The actual fee you pay is determined by the formula: Current Fee = base_fee_xrp multiplied by load_factor. During normal conditions, the load_factor equals 1 and you pay only the base fee. During periods of high traffic, the load_factor increases, raising the cost to prioritize legitimate transactions and protect network stability.
The XRPL network fee is burned, not earned. No validator, miner, or company receives it. XRP Ledger Documentation
One single XRP covers approximately 100,000 standard transactions, making XRPL practical even for high-frequency applications.
