Why XRPL Fees Are Dramatically Lower Than Ethereum
When comparing XRPL vs Ethereum fees, the difference is staggering. The XRP Ledger charges a flat 0.00001 XRP (~$0.0000152) per transaction, regardless of transaction size. Ethereum, by contrast, uses a dynamic gas model where fees regularly range from $1 to $50 or more during peak periods.
Ethereum Gas Fee Model
Ethereum fees are calculated as Gas Units multiplied by Gas Price (in Gwei). A simple ETH transfer costs 21,000 gas units. At 50 Gwei, that is 0.00105 ETH, worth roughly $2.50 to $5.00 at typical prices. Complex smart contract interactions can cost 10 to 100 times more.
XRPL Fee Model
XRPL uses a flat drop-based fee. Standard transactions always start at 10 drops (0.00001 XRP). Even during the highest congestion events recorded on the XRP Ledger, fees have never approached a fraction of a US cent for standard payments. The fee never depends on the value being transferred.
Practical Cost Comparison
To send $1,000: on Ethereum this might cost $5 to $20 in gas fees. On XRPL, the same transaction costs $0.0000152 - effectively zero. This makes XRPL uniquely suited for micro-payments, remittances, and high-frequency financial applications where Ethereum fees would be prohibitive.
XRPL transaction costs are approximately 263 times cheaper than Solana and thousands of times cheaper than Ethereum. CryptoRank, March 2026
